St. Luke’s University Health Network Upper Bucks Campus is Top Hospital for Medication Collection During April 2024 Take Back Day!

Congratulations to St. Luke’s University Health Network Upper Bucks Campus for being a top collection site and top hospital collection site during the April 27, 2024 DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back in Bucks County. The site collected 270 pounds of unused, unneeded and expired medication.

In observation of the Take Back Day, 47 public sites collected 10,122.45 pounds of medications, vaping products and 620.08 pounds of sharps. This event relies on the support of Bucks County law enforcement officers and community partnerships to collect unused, expired medications and sharps for safe disposal.

It is important to follow safe practices with all medications. This includes storing medications properly, taking medications only as prescribed, not sharing with others, and safely disposing of both prescribed and over-the-counter medications in a local medication drop box or at a Take Back collection event.

Since 2010, 221,014.92 pounds of medications have been collected and incinerated. NARCAN® (Naloxone HCl) Nasal Spray, a nasal form of naloxone for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose, was also available for local pick up at fourteen of the collection sites. For more information about how Bucks residents can obtain Narcan at no cost, please contact Mallory Perrotti (mperrotti@buckscounty.org, 215-444-2785) or visit bcdac.org.

For those who missed the collection event on Saturday, free and anonymous medication disposal is available year-round via any of the 44 permanent drop boxes located in police stations and hospitals throughout Bucks County. For more information about accepted items or to find a permanent drop-box location near you, please visit www.bcdac.org.
